WAIMATE AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB - WMEED

President   Diane Cochrane

Secretary   Jane Wilson

Treasurer  Sharon Mehrtens

Competition Secretary   Diane Cochrane

Our club is a "Country Club" which means we are only able to swim in the summer months as our pool is not covered and only opens late October through to early/mid March each year.

Training is undertaken at the Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool on the corner of Queen / Williams Streets.

This year we hope to offer learn to swim lessons to around 40 -50 children.  They will have lessons twice a week for 11-12 weeks.  (5-6 weeks before Christmas and 6 weeks after).

We also have a development squad of around 30 swimmers.  This includes swimmers who compete in carnivals around the region as well as non-competitive swimmers who just swim for fitness twice a week.  Added to this are the pre-development squad of younger swimmers just coming through from learn to swim, some of whom are competing in their first carnival.

Last year we trained twice a week on Monday and Thursday evenings between 5-6pm as well as a race night on a Wednesday.  The children are encouraged to come along to these fun nights as they need to attend three of these events to be able to enter our club champs in February.  We hold our annual carnival in December.
